Consultation with Visit

Let’s Find Out What’s Wrong - Or Right!

The cost of a consultation is included with a house call, at £75 for our regular area (please see map). We will examine your pet from head to toe, whether it’s because you are worried that there’s something wrong, or because your fur baby needs a health check. The visit will last a minimum of 15 minutes, but usually significantly longer - however much time is needed to address your concerns and move at your pet’s pace.
If your pet suffers from extreme stress or anxiety, we might advise you to consider supplements or even a medication to take prior to undertaking certain procedures. It never pays to force an anxious pet into a situation in which they are uncomfortable.
We will try to accommodate you as soon as possible. Usually this is within a day or two, but will depend upon a number of factors such as the presenting problem and how many other patients are booked for that day or week. We will always do our best to listen and support you and your best friend’s needs.
Examples of reasons for house calls include: ear & eye infections, dental problems (dental cleanings or tooth extractions will have to be referred to our ‘brick-and-mortar’ clinic partners), coughing, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin problems, limping, urinary problems, medication review, parasite control, health check, microchip implant (list is not exhaustive)

Gentle Euthanasia

A Peaceful Goodbye in the Comfort of Your Home

The most difficult time in your pet’s life is the end, whether it’s sudden or gradual. Anything we can do, as vets, to make the passing of your pet just a little bit easier, can make a big difference for your family. We start by reassuring you (or performing an assessment if needed) that you’re making the right decision. Following this, the only discomfort your pet should feel will be a small scratch in the back of the neck for a sedation that will make them feel peaceful and drowsy. They then will drift off gently over a few minutes and be unaware or uncaring of anyone touching their legs etc.
You will have the option to keep your pets remains for burial, or we can take them with us for cremation. There is the option to have their ashes returned, either to scatter in a special place or place in an urn to treasure.

Concierge Service

When You Want Only The Very Best

As caring owners, you want the very best for your pet. That’s why we offer an exclusive concierge service. This is relatively unusual in the United Kingdom but much more common in some other countries, including the US. As concierge clients, you are top of the priority list, and have access to your vet that a regular pet owner would not be privileged to.
The idea of a concierge medical professional is that you pay an annual or monthly retainer for this access. It can be tailored to include additional services such as bimonthly visits and consultations. Since the cost is dependent upon the patient’s level of care needed, the distance of the visit and what is included in the package, the price varies, but starts at £50.00/month.
If you would like to discuss this service, please call, message, or book an appointment for a comprehensive evaluation and discussion.

How To Order Your Pet’s Routine Medication

We understand that many pets are routinely taking medication for their health conditions. If you wish to order this through us, we are happy to do this once we have established a client-patient-vet relationship via a consultation for a health check. This is due to strict guidelines that come from the governing body for vets, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The most that we can prescribe is six months’ worth, or one month for controlled substances. This can be ordered through us, or via a written prescription that enables you to buy the same medication online. All vets are obliged to provide a written prescription, when requested, but are entitled to charge for it. The fee for a written prescription is £15 for the first one and £10 for any additional prescriptions. In general, prescriptions must be written at or shortly after a consultation (i.e. physical examination of the pet).

Who We Are

A New Way Of Providing Vet Care

Ellie St John BVetMed PG Dip MRCVS graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2004. She has spent the past 19 years gaining experience with cats and dogs in general practice and has a special interest in analgesia (pain relief) and infectious disease. Having worked for others, she has now established the first multi-service house call business in the area, Sussex House Call Vets.  We do not have a physical office; all our work is done i the ‘field’. This means that our overheads are lower than many traditional vets; however we are unable to provide any services that require anaesthesia or X-rays, for example (at a later date, portable X-rays may be available). We are required to have a written agreement with another provider to ensure that someone is available to take care of our registered patients at all times.
It is very important to us to uphold positive relationships with the other vets around us and we feel that we can benefit each other. We would appreciate if clients can act respectfully to other vets, especially as they might still need to visit previous clinics for some procedures. Price comparisons are moot as the business structure is vastly different and cost is not indicative of quality or conversely, a ‘rip off’. We sincerely thank you for your interest and understanding during this difficult time for our profession.
